Kitchen Design & Installation Tips

  • Use an Open Shelf Cabinet near a hard to reach corner. When space is limited on one side of a window, using a decorative cabinet, like an open shelf, makes it easier to access.
  • Add decorative posts on each side of your sink base. Make your sink area a focal point, by adding decorative posts on each side of the cabinet. This also works well, when you have a few extra inches, that won’t work into a standard cabinet size.
  • Varied Height & Depth Cabinets. Varying heights and depths area great way to add visual interest in your kitchen, especially when you have long spans of cabinetry.
  • Use a Shelf and Corbels over a sink. This is a great way to add another display area, while also duplicating a varied heights used elsewhere in the design.
  • Add a decorative valance to your sink base, in the toe space area. This is an easy way to dress up a design, and make it more furniture-like.
  • Create a custom wainscot panel on your peninsula or island. When designing in a Shaker style, you can easily simulate the look of matching wainscot paneling, by using fillers spaced evenly on your back panel, and trim with base molding.
  • Create a wine hutch by stacking cabinets together. If you have a small wall to fill, this is a great way to make a focal piece. Adding glass doors, and bun feet, dress up the area even more.
  • Incorporate a plate rack into your design. Plate racks are a great way to display pretty dishes, and add easy access to them. Plate racks give a unique touch to your kitchen design, and break up the monotony of wood doors.
  • Create a built a wall built in microwave cabinet. If you prefer to have a built-in microwave in your wall cabinets, add drawers underneath, and side panels, to create one continuous piece. This works especially well when your microwave is 18 - 21” deep.
  • Finish off the sides of your tall cabinets with decorative end panels, to create a custom, built-in look.
  • When placing a cabinet over a sink, on a window-less wall, add glass front doors, and decorative valance.
  • Create a built in hood using a wall cabinet, end panels, decorative valance, shelf, and small corbels.
  • Use an open bookcase with decorative posts on the end of an island.
  • If you are limited on countertop space, use a cooktop and base oven combination. To create the surround for this look, use Dishwasher End Panels, 3”Filler, and a Decorative Valance Toekick.
  • A Wall Easy Reach Cabinet, is a great way to fill a tight corner. Often a wall diagonal corner looks unbalanced, when not connect to cabinets on either side, so the Wall Easy Reach provides a smooth transition of the wall cabinetry line, especially when
  • Using a decorative valance and extending the crown over it, is a great way to “bridge” your wall cabinets. The continuous line is aesthetically pleasing to the eye, and also gives a way to conceal non decorative lighting, installed over the sink.
  • Add Tall Wall Cabinets with Drawers into your design. These cabinets are a great way to end a run of wall cabinets, and offer more storage for cutlery or utensils not used every day.
  • Incorporate Full Height Door Cabinets, into your layout. Full Height Door Cabinets are great for storing cookie sheets/baking trays, or anything that is tall and thin. Full Height Door Cabinets are also very useful for incorporating a Pull Out Spice Rack
  • Build in your Refrigerator with Tall Cabinets. Building in your Refrigerator with pantry cabinets, not only gives you added storage, but is also a great way to make a small wall become a focal point.
  • Furniture Like Island. To create a unique, one of a kind, island, use several decorative accents. This island has 5” turned posts, door panels, base molding on the toe space, as well as turned upside down to create a table ledge.
  • When spanning one long wall, a great way to add visual appeal is to used stack cabinets, with varying depths. Incorporating glass front cabinets, also adds a high end, custom, look.
  • Create display shelving between cabinets, using finished shelving material, a straight filler or valance, and light rail molding. This is a great way to show off a gorgeous tile design, and fill a space that a standard cabinet size may not accommodate.
  • Create a unique island, using base cabinets, wall cabinets, and a bar height knee wall. This island offers plenty of storage, a serving area, while still offering room to sit.
  • Finish the back and sides of your island with bead board paneling. This is a great look for a cottage style kitchen!
  • When using varied depths and heights, make sure to allow room for your crown to return into, when the depths are not the same. Often, you will need a filler end panel, that is cut to the desired height and depth, to make this transition.
  • Build in your refrigerator with a 12” deep pantry, adjacent to your fridge. This is a great way to conceal a deep fridge, and offer pantry storage. Use decorative door panels, to finish the side.
  • When using the tall wall cabinets, often a corner cabinet in the same height is not available. Here we have used an Easy Reach (void door, finished interior), with a 6” filler installed above, to fill in the height.
  • Create a bench seat using wall cabinets, and decorative base trim. The height can be from 18-24” high, with the depth varying from 18-24”.
  • Use angle base cabinets, on a tight corner, they are a great depth transition option, without giving up needed countertop space.
  • Be creative with your island, incorporate storage that works from various sides.
